"Bambir" rock band of Armenia won the third prize with its "That's fine with us" song at "EuroVoice–2010" European Music Contest held in the Olympic Stadium in Athens, Greece on September 23-24. The Armenian representatives came after Cyprus ("The Secret" band) and Great Britain.
Representatives of 29 countries took part in the contest. The prize for the winner of the contest is 100,000 euro.

Euro Voice-2010 is the first music contest in Europe when the winner is selected by SMS voting, which lasts 2 weeks. Over 600,000 people all over the world have participated in the voting this year.

HIGH FEST 8TH INTERNATIONAL PERFORMING ARTS FESTIVAL STARTS ON OCTOBER 1

The HIGH FEST 8th International Performing Arts Festival will be held between October 1 and 8 in Yerevan. Thirty three performing arts companies from 22 countries, including Great Britain, Russia, Romania, Slovenia, Czech Republic, Iran, Armenia participate in HIGH FEST 2010.

HIGH FEST 2010 is a multi-genre and Europe-oriented festival.

Performing arts companies and artists will present their productions in all genres of performing arts including theatre (drama, comedy, mime, movement, circus, street performances, puppet/marionette, fingers theatre, visual), dance (modern, folk, classic etc.), music (opera, classical, musical, contemporary, jazz, folk etc) and other forms of performing arts. Sixty performances will be presented on around 15 stages on festival's main and fringe programs. The festival includes an Iranian Theater Program called showcase.

ARMENIA AT TOURISM EXPO IN PARIS

Armenia will take part on September 21st in Paris Tourism Expo. Gohar Mirzoyan, project manager of the National Competitiveness Foundation of Armenia, said that the expo will last till September 24 and is directed to the business sphere. It is intended that a number of tour operators from various states will have discussions on tourism issues and travel packages. According to Ms. Mirzoyan the participation in the expo gives an opportunity to establish new business ties. Five travel agencies from Armenia will participate in the expo.

RETURN CLASSICAL MUSIC FESTIVAL

'Veradardz' /Return/ Classical Music Festival will kick off today at Komitas Chamber Music Hall. The festival will last till October 17.

According to the source support of the festival, has already become traditional and will give an opportunity to spectators of Yerevan, Gyumri and Vanadzor to meet with world-famous Armenian musicians, living and creating abroad. The festival is a good opportunity to listen to masterpieces of classical music. Seven concerts will be held within the framework of the festival.

Lovers of classical music will have an opportunity to listen to classical music in Armenia by Armenian performers, living and creating abroad. The programs of the concerts are difficult; they involve music of various periods – renaissance, baroque, classical period, romantic era and modern music. The opening ceremony will be held at Komitas Chamber Music Hall. Varduhi Khachatryan (mezzo soprano, Switzerland), Anna Mandalyan (pianist) will perform at the opening ceremony. Vivaldi’s 'Sposa, son disprezzata', 'Bayazet', Rossini’s 'Assisa al pie` d'un salice', Masne’s 'Pleurez, pleurez mes yeux' are involved in the program list.

MAESTRO SPIVAKOV ON STAGE WITH CIS YOUTH ORCHESTRA IN YEREVAN

On September 24, the CIS Youth Orchestra conducted by Vladimir Spivakov will perform a concert in Yerevan.

Works by Giuseppe Verdi, Niccolo Paganini, Pyotr Tchaikovsky, Camille Saint-Saens, Georges Bizet and modern composers of CIS member countries, including Alexander Harutyunyan, are included in the program.

This year, the orchestra brought together 94 young musicians from all CIS member states and Georgia.

TAKE A BITE OF WORLD'S LARGEST CHOCOLATE BAR

Chocolate lovers around the world are invited to Armenia to take a
bite of the world's largest chocolate bar.

The 4,410-kilogram dark chocolate treat will be offered up to the
public on October 16.

The Guinness Book of World Records certified the giant bar as the
world's largest in a ceremony in Yerevan over the weekend.

Made by the Grand Candy factory, the massive chocolate is 70 percent
cocoa mass and was made from all natural ingredients using cocoa
beans from Ghana.

It is more than 5.5 meters long, 2.7 meters wide and 25 centimeters
thick.

The previous record was for a 3,587-kilogram chocolate bar made by
Elah Dufour-Novi in Alessandria, Piemonte, Italy, in October 2007.

"BRAZZAVILLE" IN ARMENIA

"Brazzaville" indie pop band will give a concert in Armenia on September 11-15, . The band has been invited by the U.S. Embassy in Armenia. According to the source by this concert program the band is wrapping up its international tours in the Central Asia and Caucasus. On September 12, "Brazzaville" will give a concert in "The Lovers' Park" in Yerevan, and on September 13, in Gyumri Dramatic Theater.

"Brazzaville" will also perform for the alumni of the Hrazdan musical school and will give master classes in Yerevan. All the events are open to the public and free of charge. Brazzaville was formed in 1997 by David Brown (vocals, guitar). Band members also include Matthew Reynolds De Merritt (horns, keyboards), Ivan Knight (drums), Kenny Lyon (guitar), and David Ralicke (saxophone, trombone).

Brazzaville has released nine albums to critical acclaim, including Teenage Summer Days and East L.A. Breeze, which reached the top of the Russian charts thanks to its English version of KINO's "A Star Called Sun." The band's live album Brazzaville in Istanbul was also a European World Music Chart Top 20 Album. Brazzaville has been featured in The L.A. Times, The New Yorker, and Afisha, among other publications, and plays to sold-out crowds around the world.

POMEGRANATE SEED 10TH JUNIOR THEATRICAL FESTIVAL IN YEREVAN

"Pomegranate Seed" (Nran Hatik) 10th junior theatrical festival will be conducted from October 25-31 in Yerevan with participation of 32 theatrical groups from Armenia, Javakhk and Iran.
According to the source this year there are no theatrical groups from Lori, Syunik, Vayots Dzor and Tavush. The other regions are quite active.The festival will kick off in Avetik Isahakyan House-Museum, after which the performances will continue in "Metro" theater.

VLADIMIR ARZUMANYAN TO REPRESENT ARMENIA AT JUNIOR EUROVISION SONG CONTEST 2010

This year Armenia will be represented by Vladimir Arzumanyan with the song "Mommy" at Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2010 to be held in November in Minsk. Ten participants were involved in the final of the Armenian pre-selection contest, and Vladimir Arzumanyan was recognized as a winner through the SMS voting of televiewers and decision of the jury.

For the first time the Junior Eurovision Song Contest was conducted in 2003 in the capital of Denmark - Copenhagen.

Representatives of 15 countries took part in the contest then. Armenia first participated in it in 2007, when the alumni of "Arevik" junior ensemble came forward with the song "Dream" and occupied the 2nd place. In 2008 Armenia was represented by Monica Manucharova with "The Sounds of My Song" and occupied the 8th place and in 2009 - by Laura Hayrapetyan who performed the song "Barcelona" and took the 2nd place.
