Tehran, November 21 (MNA) -- Iranian musicians Shahin Farhat and Loris Tjeknavorian left Tehran for Armenia today to record the "Iran Symphony" with the Armenian Philharmonic Orchestra.
"One of the reasons the symphony is being recorded abroad is that I would like to record it once with all members of the orchestra playing simultaneously. In Iran, unfortunately, an orchestral work is recorded by several groups of players at different times. Thus, mixing the instruments takes much time," Farhat said.
Farhat began composing the work last March and finished it in October.
"It abstractly demonstrates bittersweet events our country has experienced over history," he said previously.
With a genuine Iranian theme, the symphony has been written in four movements and takes about 40 minutes. The first and second movements have an exciting and fast rhythm, the third movement is mellow, and the ending reminds one of triumph and victory.
According to Farhat, the Iranian Academy of Arts is funding the recording of the symphony, which will be conducted by Tjeknavorian.
Farhat had earlier asked Ali Rahbari to conduct the symphony, but Rahbari quit his post as the Tehran Symphony Orchestra permanent conductor and left Tehran for Vienna on November 19 due to the chaotic situation of music in Iran and the low salaries paid to musicians in the orchestra.
Farhat also composed the "Iranian Lady Symphony", the "Damavand Symphony", and the "Persian Gulf Symphony", all of which have patriotic themes.
Farhat's Persian Gulf and Damavand symphonies were originally scheduled to be recorded in Iran by the Tehran Symphony Orchestra conducted by Tjeknavorian, but in the end they were also recorded in Armenia by the Armenian Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Tjeknavorian.
Farhat had expressed satisfaction with the Armenian orchestra's performance of the symphony.

Days of Russian Press in Yerevan
Russian prime minister Mikhail Fradkov will visit Armenia on December 2-3. The re-equipped "Armenal" company is planned to open during his stay. Vigen Sargsian, Armenian president's aide, told journalists yesterday that Russian PM's visit will be marked by a business forum, exhibition of Russian manufacturers and the closing ceremony of Russia's Year in Armenia.
These days Yerevan hosts editors of Komsomolskaya Pravda, Sobesednik, Ogonyok and the head of Rospechat (Russian Press) on occasion of the days of Russian press in Armenia. Viktor Soghomonian, RA president's spokesperson, opened the round table of Armenian and Russian editors on November 14 and stated that the Russian mass media has demand in Armenia.
The speeches of Armenian editors at the round table created an impression of dissatisfaction with allegedly not positive picture of Armenia in the Russian press. As an example they cited an August publication in Nezavisimoya Gazeta where the Armenian president was titled "Armenbashi."
"This is an open discussion and not complaint. We strive here to raise the level of contacts to a higher quality. I think this get-together will give birth to new projects. Hopefully new professional ties will help to be more objective in covering events in our countries," Sargsian said.

Over 75 scientists from 11 countries, participated in the Space Weather symposium organized by the Cosmic Ray Division (CRD) of the Alikhanyan Physics Institute. The symposium was funded by the International Science and Technology Center (ISTC), the international Commission On Space Research (COSPAR) and participant registration fees. It was listed on the NASA and COSPAR website calendars, drawing new faces from scientific organizations and industry who are showing interest in Space Weather issues. As a reminder for our readers, Space Weather is defined as processes that occur in space due to the activity of the sun. Just as on earth we have wind, rain, and storms; in space we have solar winds, particle showers, and geomagnetic storms, all due to powerful irruptions on the sun. Some of these are so severe that they damage satellites in orbit and power stations on the ground. Indirectly they affect every fabric of society, be it reliable use of cell phones, monitoring of earthly weather, businesses and systems that depend on electricity. Space weather can harm personnel on space missions over the polar flights. As is the case for predicting weather on earth, if we can predict the arrival of the severe space weather conditions and take mitigating action to protect against them, we can save billions of dollars of damage to our infrastructure, reduce radiation related illnesses in people and even save lives.
Steered by an international advisory group co-chaired by Prof. Ashot Chilingarian, head of the CRD and Prof. Michael Panasyuk, head of Space Weather Research at Moscow State University, the conference program focused on the sources of Space Weather and the detection and early warning of events with catastrophic consequences.
Head scientists of the Spaceship Earth program and top scientists from the astronomy or space weather research departments of Stanford, UCLA, Delaware, Bern, Nagoya, Moscow, and Yerevan State Universities were among the participants. They and representatives from NASA, the European Space Agency (ESA), the European Commission On Science and Technology's (COST) space weather program, as well as the CRD Students from Yerevan State University and a graduate student from University of Costa Rica made presentations and insightful observations on data gathering, analysis and alert systems for space weather. Collaborative efforts to correlate data from around the world for a more reliable alert service were among the major topics. To this end, the CRD scientists in Armenia presented two different prototype space weather monitors that they designed. These monitors are reasonably portable and modular and can be made in quantity to place around the world, much like a weather research group might place barometers, thermometers and wind speed measuring devices around the world to monitor pending severe weather conditions, but in this case space weather conditions.
For many of the participants, particularly those who registered based on the announcement on the NASA and COSPAR calendars, this was their first trip to Armenia. Thus the local organizing committee headed by Prof. Chilingarian, organized sightseeing excursions on two of the evenings, and an ice-breaker dinner on the first night of the conference. Participants had the "time of their lives" (W. Saroyan) dancing Armenian shurch-bars and getting acquainted with Armenian hospitality.
A tour of the two Cosmic Ray research stations on Mt. Aragats rounded off the outstanding week on the last day of the conference. Comments about the unique and important capabilities of the Cosmic Ray Division, both in infrastructure and human expertise, was a comment that was heard many times from the visitors, as they toured the facilities.
During the closing session discussions moderated by Prof. Chilingarian, he asked the participants if this conference should become a series and how often it should be organized. The consensus was that the conference should become an annual event because of the huge implications of space weather on critical and expensive systems which we rely on for our daily lives, the rapid growth in our understanding of the mechanisms that drive space weather conditions, and evolving scenarios for reliable early warning alerts. The final question from Prof. Chilingarian was, "And so which country should host the conference nest year? The answer from the audience was unanimous and in unison "There is no better place than Armenia". To which Prof. Chilingarian replied, "We have many interesting and beautiful places in Armenia that you have not seen yet. We will be glad to host the conference next year."
Next year we look forward to scientists’ return, this time with their spouses and friends, as we were requested to include a spouses program next year. That's a program during which, when the scientists sit in meeting rooms discussing their work, their accompanying spouses and friends go sightseeing! We in the Support Committee for Armenia's Cosmic Ray Division (SCACRD) are proud of the accomplishments of the CRD. CRD's supporters should, justifiably, be extremely proud that their support of the CRD is putting Armenia on the map as a powerful contributor to solving one of the world's most important challenges, the understanding and alerting on space weather, while also giving a boost to Armenia's tourist industry and creating good will towards Armenia around the world. CRD personnel expressed to SCACRD members at the conference that they are extremely appreciative for the confidence and support that they have received from the Diaspora. For more information about the Cosmic Ray Division or how you can get involved with such a dynamic and winning program, please visit www.crdfriends.org or call Anahid Yeremian at 650 -926 - 4444.

The construction of the Tsaghkadzor Cable-Way is Over
“We will try to add something new to this construction every year. By rendering high-standard services we will prove that Armenia is the right country for winter tourism and winter sports, said the Armenian president Robert Kocharyan at the official opening ceremony of the last section of the cable-way. “We should be able to do everything so that in the nearest villages and in Tsaghkadzor itself we have all relevant services, thus using the cable-way not only for sports purposes, but also for the development of tourism, the president noted with confidence.
Presently we should think of better ways of exploiting the cable-way. In Armenia tourism is seasonal with huge gaps between the seasons. This construction will give an opportunity to settle this problem. Besides that, the cable-way could have a great impact on the economic policy of the country.

Parliamentarians from 30 countries and 80 delegations of international organizations took part at the international congress in Yerevan on occasion of the 15 anniversary of RA National Parliament. Among the participants there was Liliam Keshishian, deputy of the House of Representatives of Uruguay and chairman of the Standing Committee on Tourism.
Mrs. Keshishian was glad to visit her ancestral land for the first time. Her family moved to Uruguay from Lebanon where her grandparents settled after the Genocide. Having lost her parents while a child, Mrs. Keshishian could not hear much about the Armenian massacres from them but as the only female deputy in the House she initiated elaboration of a very important document on Genocide that was subsequently signed by 30.000 people and presented to the House.
Today, the 13.000 Armenian community of Uruguay is wholly integrated in the socio-economic life of the country playing a unique role there. Mrs. Keshishian thinks that Armenia and Uruguay are very alike both demographically and from the viewpoint of the processes that the two nations underwent on the path of democracy. The Armenian and Uruguayan sides are working to implement mutual economic and cultural projects.

Yerevan, November 2, ArmeniaLiberty.org, By Ruzanna Stepanian. The lifting of a constitutional ban on dual citizenship whould not automatically give Diaspora Armenians the right to vote and get elected to a public office in Armenia, leaders of the governing coalition told RFE/RL on Tuesday.
Senior lawmakers from the governing Republican Party (HHK) and the Armenian Revolutionary Federation (Dashnaktsutyun) said ethnic Armenian citizens of other nations will have that right only if they live in Armenia, have served in its military and pay taxes.
Dual citizenship is among the numerous constitutional amendments which citizens of Armenia will endorse or reject at a referendum on November 27. The existing constitution, enacted in 1995, bans them from being the citizens of other states. Many Armenian parties believe that the restriction is unjustified given the existence of the worldwide Armenian Diaspora. President Robert Kocharian pledged to abolish it when he came to power in 1998.
"We have a national security issue," said the HHK's Samvel Nikoyan. "Every step taken by us should serve that purpose. Anything beyond that is not acceptable to me."
"For example, giving one or two million Armenians of Russia the right to vote means that the outcome of every Armenian election is decided in Russia," he added. "Can we allow such a thing? Of course not."
Levon Mkrtchian, a Dashnaktsutyun leader, agreed, saying that the right to vote must be pegged to a number of conditions such as a minimum residency requirement. "A Diaspora-based citizen's rights would be commensurate with the fulfillment of their obligations," he said.
Mrktchian said Dashnaktsutyun experts are already working on a draft law on citizenship. He said it will be circulated as early as next spring if the constitutional amendments pass the referendum.
The allies of former President Levon Ter-Petrosian, who enacted the controversial constitution in 1995, remain strongly opposed to dual citizenship.

Some people even call it derogatively 'colony' and even 'a ghetto,' and now it is time to make the voice of 'the ghetto' heard,' the statement says. It says that all Diaspora Armenians, regardless of their political affiliations, religious and social belonging can be elected to the proposed body. It also calls on Armenians in Los Angeles area to rally around this idea.

Head of Yerevannakhagits Tries to Convince that it Will Be Greener
Gurgen Musheghian, head of Yerevannakhagits Institute, presented the Yerevan city layout as designed for the period till 2020 at yesterday's press conference at the Municipality. But before that he informed that the layout will also be discussed at the Tekeyan Center on November 12 and now it is being tested.
Musheghian said that they worked to make the layout realistic. Half of the finances will be allocated from the state budget and half from investment projects. The document will be ecology-oriented, i.e. it will add more green zones in Yerevan. The green zones will be divided into three categories: public zones, zones with limited usage and zones of special importance. Today the overall area of green zones in the city is 4951 hectares, i.e. 44.4 sq meter per person. The layout 2020 looks to increasing it up to 9397, 78.3 sq meters per person. To make this plan come to the authorities will finish construction of irrigation water network this year.
Supposedly Yerevan's population will reach 1.2 million by 2020. The greatest projects to be carried out are connected with the reconstruction of road network. To ease the traffic in the city two new roads will be built with total cost of $10 million. "A great deal" of boroughs will be rebuilt considering seismic situation and engineering infrastructure of Yerevan.
Asked at what expense the new green zones will spring, Gurgen Musheghian said that the city is not completely built up and there are free areas within the administrative territories that Yerevan got in 1956 which will be used for green zones. He assured that not an inch of green areas in Yerevan's center is privatized. Those areas were leased and cafes will remove from there with time.
