HRAYR BAZE: MY GOAL IS TO FAMILIARIZE WORLD WITH ARMENIA THROUGH PHOTOS
Noyan Tapan, October 24
The Armenian Canadian photographer Hrayr Baze Khacherian presented his photo exhibition "Armenia Through the Eyes of Baze" to residents of Yerevan on October 21. The photographer captures inimitably and spreads Armenian cultural values such as monasteries, church complexes, monuments and in general Armenian nature.
More than 60 photos taken during three helicopter flights feature valuable monuments of Armenian culture, various monasteries, churches, Lake Sevan, Mount Aragats, nice-looking sites of the country's nature, as well as historic monuments in Iran and Turkey whose photos were taken from border zones. According to the author, he has taken these photos over the past two years.
Prior to that he photographed numerous monuments and churches in Western Armenia. He has released six photo albums.
"The primary goal of my photos is to familiarize the world with Armenia through photos, to make our culture recognizable and disseminate it throughout the world," he pointed out. In his words, taking photos from
a helicopter is a difficult task not only in terms of photographing but also obtaining a helicopter and getting permission to take photos from it.

ACCESS TO CULTURE: NORAVANK MONASTERY/CANYON LATEST SITE TO IMPROVE VISITOR EXPERIENCE
www.armenianow.com, October 24
One by one the historical monuments of Armenia are becoming more relevant to visitors to Armenia and are linking natives with their history through a series of on-site information ports.
October 17 was Noravank’s day in the spotlight, as a crowd of more than 300 – plus busloads of French tourists -- witnessed the unveiling of the Armenian Monuments Awareness Project’s latest contribution to culture.
At the entrance of Noravank canyon, and all along the 8 kilometer road to the monastery and on the territory of the complex itself there are now 10 information boards (in five languages), as well as directional signs prompting drivers to the monastery.
Last Friday’s presentation added Noravank to the list of sites so far completed by AMAP since last spring. Others included Gyumri’s “Old Kumayri” district, Garni and Zvartnots. Next week, Khor Virap/Ancient Artashat will be added to the list.
The project is supported by the Ministry of Culture, by USAID/CAPS and by its initial and continuing sponsor the honorary consul of Italy to Gyumri Antonio Montalto. Major financial support comes from VivaCell-MTS Communications Company, as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility program.
The boards installed in the Noravank gorge tell about the Magil cave, the largest in Armenia – a human settlement since the Neolithic Age (New Stone Age, around 8th-3rd millenniums B.C.) and an aerial with a large population of bats. The signs also include information about the rare flora and fauna of the gorge.
Father Sahak Martirosyan, head of Noravank parish for the last 3 years, says his staff have been obtaining literature – multilingual books and brochures – since 2000, and that: “The boards that were installed on the territory of Noravank today came to fill the gap in the awareness building efforts we made and were of a big investment in that.
“People sometimes simply walk around but do not always ask whether there is information or not, and now they can find the answer to the questions they might have.”
Françoise Des Landres, a tourist from France on her first visit to Armenia is enchanted with the “wonderful rocks and mountains” of Armenia. She got an opportunity to both communicate with the beautiful nature and the monastery and also read and learn things that are not seen, in Noravank.
“I read and learned a lot of things about this place. Your culture is very rich in history, and the more information you manage to give about it, the more interested people here will be able to enjoy this wealth,” Des Landres said.
