Yerevan, January 26, Armenpress; Armenia's National Picture Gallery will mark its 85-th anniversary this year by an extensive set of events. Paravon Mirzoyan, the chief director of the Gallery, said a special exhibition will be organized to display all paintings which have been restored in the last two years.
He said another exhibition, slated for autumn will feature French art. He said the Gallery is negotiating already with the French embassy in Yerevan on how to best organize it. He said also special halls will open in the Gallery to display Chinese and Japanese decorative arts.
The Gallery will also publish an illustrated book about most precious works it has. Mirzoyan said last year the Gallery had 6500 visitors.

Yerevan, January 25, Armenpress: The Year of Armenia in France will kick off next autumn, within the frameworks of which numerous events will take place in 30 French cities, France's ambassador to Armenia Henry Cuny told reporters on January 24, adding also that the official opening of the Year of Armenia in France will be preceded by the Month of France in Armenia.
The highlight of the French Month in Armenia will be a concert by famous singer Charles Aznavour and two exhibitions, one dedicated to Napoleon and the other to Armenians of Musa Dagh, a village in western Turkey, who fought back Turkish troops and were saved by the crew of a French military ship.
"I wish that the Year of Armenia in France helps my country fellows to reveal Armenia, its rich culture and its spirit, its beautiful nature and its people's hospitability," the ambassador said.

Yerevan, January 23, Armenpress: The Russian Year in Armenia intensified bilateral cooperation, Armenian President Robert Kocharian said at a Kremlin ceremony that launched the Armenian Year in Russia on Sunday.
"The political dialog was stepped up, and trade was enlarged," he said. Kocharian thanked Russia for making the Russian Year in Armenia an interesting and memorable event. Armenia and Russia are developing strategic partnership, which should be immune to the current situation, he said. "I would like the Armenian Year in Russia to be a step forward in the development of our partnership," he said.
"National communities are an important factor of the relations between Armenia and Russia. Their potential is enormous, and we should find a way of using it," he said. "We should exclude obnoxious cases of ethnic intolerance in our relations. Russians and Armenians cannot be alien in each other's countries," he said.
Common economic, scientific, cultural and educational projects will be developed during the Armenian Year in Russia, President Vladimir Putin said at the Kremlin ceremony.
"Russia values high the traditions of trust and neighborliness in the relations with the people of Armenia. Common historical values and mutual liking, which is passed from one generation to another, make up their solid foundation," he said. Russia and Armenia have a common wish for the development of multifaceted strategic partnership, Putin said. "Our relations become more dynamic and rich in content year to year," he said. Bilateral trade grew 40% in 2005, he added. Businessmen of Russia and Armenia are suggesting breakthroughs in the economic cooperation, he said. "We have many reserves of [the economic cooperation] growth," he said.
Bilateral strategic partnership plays a considerable role in the response to new threats and challenges, Putin said. "Russia will assist the search for mutually acceptable political and diplomatic solutions, which will bring lasting peace and stability to the South Caucasus," he said.
"We have seen many times that mutual confidence encourages and enriches our contacts and helps us achieve major goals in the economy, social and political spheres," he said. The Armenian Year in Russia will be eventful and witness interesting meetings and successful projects, Putin said.

Yerevan-Tel Aviv flights will be exercised on Thursdays and Sundays by A 320 European airplanes meat for conveying 144 people. The duration of the flight will make 2 hours 15 minutes. The opening of the direct air communication with Israel is conditioned by the necessity of activating the economic and humanitarian Armenian-Israeli cooperation.
The wish of the Armenian Apostolic Church to contribute to the development of pilgrim tourism promoted the decision. The new route will allow Armenian citizens to visit the birthplace of the three world religions, attend churches and historical monuments. Besides, a great number of people wishing to see Armenia and get acquainted with its sights, history and culture as well as establish business ties live in Israel. Yerevan, January 18, Armenpress: Armenian health minister Norayr Davidian announced yesterday there were no individuals or birds suffering from bird flu. He said an inter-agency body, set up by the government is coordinating measures against bird flu by examining passengers arriving from other countries and their luggage.
He said passengers arriving from Turkey and other countries are subjected to strict health and sanitary checks and those bound for Turkey are given special booklets with clear instructions about how to detect symptoms of bird flu. Armenia's Armavia carrier resumed after New Year holidays regular flights to Istanbul.
An official of the company told Armenpress they have decided to serve only Armenian-made food on its Istanbul-Yerevan flights. Hayk Martirosian from a special commission set up by Armenian poultry farms, told Armenpress the commission is negotiating with Russians on acquisition of a vaccine, reportedly developed by Russian scientists, which they say is very effective to battle the bird flu.

Yerevan, January 9, Armenpress: On January 22 Armenian president Robert Kocharian will travel to Moscow to join his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin for an official opening of an extensive set of various events titled The Year of Armenia in Russia.
Deputy culture minister Gagik Gyurjian told Armenpress that Armenian dance groups, theater troupes and singers will perform in Moscow, Saint Petersburg and other big Russian cities. During the official opening a statue of the Russian Queen Catherine the Great that has been preserved in Armenia will be handed to Russia.
One of the major events will be the display of treasures from Etchmiadzin at Hermitage Museum in Saint Petersburg.
